The cold weather and late snowfall have made it difficult for many to start preparing in the fields for the coming planting season. In some areas, prolonged cooler temperatures will prevent the soil from warming up enough for farmers to get the planting season started.

Late planting can mean more concerns later in the hotter months of July and August if precipitation levels aren’t adequate through the growing season; however, temperatures are expected to rise back to normal levels soon.

There are a few areas, however, that still suffer from excessive heat and dryness that may cause problems for production agriculture. These areas include California, the Rockies and parts of Florida.
